Tetherspout Measurement Sound
Tetherspout Measurement Sound
Tetherspouts work by accounting for the difference between the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the tissue involved—a distinction that standard round sounds simply can’t capture. Traditional sounds only measure the smaller horizontal dimension, which can lead to inaccurate sizing.
This purpose-built measuring device eliminates that guesswork. By inserting it horizontally and then vertically, you can measure both dimensions independently, allowing you to determine the correct size with confidence before placing an order.
Each arm is 30 mm long and marked with 4 graduations, covering the most relevant sizing ranges:
- Arm 1: 7–10 mm
- Arm 2: 11–14 mm
- Arm 3: 15–18 mm
- Arm 4: 19–22 mm
Why these ranges?
The tissue being measured typically sits a few millimeters inside the urethra (with natural variation between individuals). At steeper angles, you might see, for example, 13 mm protruding externally, when the true internal measurement is closer to 10 mm.
By using elongated arms with over 6 mm between measurement marks, the discrepancy between what is visible externally and the actual internal dimension is minimized, resulting in a far more accurate reading.
Materials & Manufacturing
Two options, an affordable option 3D printed in PLA at a 0.10 mm layer hight ensuring fine surface detail and consistent graduations. And now, a premium mirror-polished 316L stainless steel options, easy to sterilize in boiling water, and can be resold.
Note: Color may vary unless a specific color is requested.
How to Use
1. Clean before use
Wash the device with warm water and mild soap, then rinse thoroughly.
2. Apply lubricant
Use a generous amount of a sterile lubricant to ensure smooth insertion and accurate measurement.
3. Measure horizontally
Starting with the smallest arm and progressing upward as needed, gently insert the arm horizontally until resistance is encountered. Note the measurement at the urethral opening.
4. Measure vertically
Remove the device, re-lubricate if necessary, and repeat the process with the arms oriented vertically.
5. Record both measurements.
The appropriate retainer size will lie between them. Starting at the smaller size is recommended before moving up as needed.
6. Clean after use
Wash again with warm water and mild soap, then allow the device to air dry completely.
Safety & Care
Measuring tool only
This device is intended solely for measuring. It is not designed for extended wear or stimulation.
Go slowly and never force insertion
If you experience discomfort, resistance, or pain, stop immediately.
Use appropriate lubrication
Adequate sterile lubrication is essential to reduce friction and prevent irritation.
Material considerations
This device is 3D printed in PLA and intended for short-term contact during measurement only. It is not suitable for boiling, autoclaving, or high-temperature sterilization.
Cleaning
Clean with mild soap and warm water only. Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
Inspect before use
Do not use the device if it shows signs of damage, rough edges, or wear.
Do not share
For hygiene and safety reasons, this is a personal measuring tool and should not be shared.
Consult a professional if unsure
If you have medical concerns or are unsure whether this type of measurement is appropriate for you, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
